Crop Tour to West Africa

A FAS crop analyst from PECAD visited Cote d'Ivoire and Mali from July 20-August 24, 2002. The objective of the crop tour was to compare current crop conditions (for the 2002 crop season) to current satellite and meteorological data.  Palm oil, rice, and cotton regions were visited in Ivory Coast, and cotton, rice, millet, and sorghum regions were visited in Mali. In general, rainfall for the 2002 crop season has been good in both Mali and Cote d'Ivoire, with some dry conditions reported in western and central Mali.  Below are recent crop updates for West Africa and several pictures from the crop tour.
